When I was in my senior year of high school, we experimented with the publication of a literary magazine. I have lost track of my copy, but I do recall that I contributed a piece called Tommy, about the little boy next door, and a short story that I do not recall. What I remember most about the issue was a science fiction short story by a student named Roger Conlee, a genre which continues to fascinate me. The article he wrote back in the -50s was about time travel, and I recall the plot line as if it were yesterday. It involved an astronaut that returned to Earth before he left it, and I read it at a time when such questions were rare. My favorite reads of the past decade are by David Brin, Gregory Benford, and Greg Bear, (called The Killer Bees), and the works of Neil Stephenson, especially his Baroque trilogy, which is a great mix of science fiction and the large historical! But now I have have a new champion who writes in two of my favorite genres--the military historical and hard science fiction. His name is Roger Conlee. Visit his page on Amazon and you may find something there you like.
